COLLEGE LIBRARY HISTORY

The College Library of the Federal College of Education, have long being in existence since the early 70s when the then government of the Midwest region led by Dr. Osaigbovo Ogbemudia established a Teachers Training College at Ekiadolor. The Training College Library transformed into a College of Education Benin City (COLBEN), in the early 1980s. In January 2021, the Federal Government of Nigeria announced the establishment of six (6) new Federal Technical Colleges of Education across the geopolitical zones of the Nigerian state and graciously approved that one be domiciled in Edo state, precisely at Ekiadolor, Benin City. Hence, the coming into existence of the College Library of the Federal College of Education (Technical), within the premises of the defunct state College of Education.

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide materials in support of the learning process: that is; materials for students course work, assigned reading as well as background reading for essays, term papers and projects;
  • Provide materials in general support of research and advanced study;
  • Assist the library user in his own personal and self-development;
  • Co-operate with other libraries with the view of developing a network of academic library resources which are at the disposal of all staff and students;
  • Serve the specialized information needs of Edo state in particular and Nigeria in general.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

  • Food, drinks and tobacco are prohibited from entering the College library,
  • Umbrellas and handbags are prohibited from entering the College library,
  • Access to, and use of the College library is strictly open to registered staff and student,
  • Stealing, mutilation and defacing of library resources is a punishable offence,
  • Bags of any kind are not allowed into or within the premises of the College library,
  • Children and Pets are prohibited from the College library (May be reviewed),
  • Use of phone calls, holding of lectures, including class discussions are prohibited within the reading areas,
  • Indecent dressing and clothing are prohibited,
  • Library users’ are to return borrowed books or items within stipulated periods,
  • All cases of loss of borrower’s card should and must be promptly reported to the library (circulation desk). There will be a cost for replacement of any lost borrowers card.
